School Closure Extension Information
School Closure Extension Information

From Superintendent, Dr. Brian Bibb:

This afternoon, Governor Abbott extended the closure of Texas schools through Monday, May 4 in order to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus. This announcement aligns with President Trump's social distancing guidelines and the parameters set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In light of this mandate, Petersburg ISD will remain closed until Monday, May 4. The reopening of Petersburg ISD schools will depend on the status of disease spread and possible executive orders for further extension of closure. This also means that all Petersburg ISD facilities are closed to the public for the duration of this closure. Our current distance learning protocol will continue to be followed until that time. Petersburg ISD staff will work to distribute more paper work for our students early next week and will be in touch with that information when we have it finalized. We will continue to follow our same food service procedures for breakfast and lunch. We will also follow our current school calendar for this process, which means that we will not serve meals on Friday, April 10th or Friday, April 17th. Both of those dates are listed on our calendar as holidays.

We respect the protective measures enacted by President Trump, Governor Abbott, and our local leaders. The health and safety of our students, staff members, and their families is our foremost priority, and we will continue to work with local and state health and education agencies to ensure we are doing all that we can to protect our community.

Also, Hale County issued a stay-at-home order today. This is in effect through Monday, April 6th. We urge members of our school community to adhere to the guidelines established in that order. We also suggest the following precautions to prevent the spread of illness: - Don’t shake hands. - Wash your hands regularly. - Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded places and maintaining six feet of distance between people. - If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, please contact your health care provider for medical advice. - Closely follow the parameters of the Hale County Stay at Home order.

Please continue to do your best to manage these unprecedented circumstances, and, in return, we promise our support in every way possible. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Bibb at (806) 667-3585 or bbibb@petersburgisd.net.
